AYC canceled the first race of the 2025 Wednesday Night Races Series 1 claiming too little wind.
Proposed to Mike Nikolich on Skybird that we race from R"8" out to Y"A" and back, finishing at R"8". Mike accepted the challenge and off we went. Winds light at force 2 blowing up the river from the Bay. Crossed halfway from R"8" to Bembe Beach, footing while Mike appeared to pinch. About the halfway point picked up a bit of breeze. Once able to lay Y"A", tacked from port to starboard, stayed in the breeze and fetched Y"A" reaching the mark well ahead of Skybird.
Poor spinnaker work resulted in us reaching R"8" a couple lengths ahead of Skybird rather than many lengths. Offered Mike to possibility of a repeat which he accepted. Time may have been 1920. Rode the increasing breeze, which reached the top of force 3, back halfway across the river and tacked, once again from port to starboard, to fetch R"4" and then Y"A". Better spinnaker work on the second run. Finished the race at AYC having passed from 1"SC" to AYC without tacking while Skybird had to tack twice. Finished about 2030.
